this comes one page after all the main characters read each other their social security numbers out loud in a group
then manny took care of some band business for consolidated. he checked our union cards, just to make sure we were all up-to-date. and there was an extra form he had to fill out for the social security administration, so we all had to get out our new little white cards and read off our numbers to him.

why are books from the 30s and 40s always SO out of pocket 😭
we heard the steward call the last dinner seating, and ted told me that the tour picked up the tab for all our meals on all the trains, but any liquor we ordered was strictly dutch treat. i hadn't known what arrangements he'd made, so i'd brought along some tunafish sandwiches with mayonnaise dressing, and two bottles of coke, in my big pocketbook. i got them out, unwrapped the waxed paper from the sandwiches, and broke them into chunks to share. eileen took one, and with a theatrical flourish said, "mmm, hors d'oeuvres." ivy, however, squeezed one into a ball in her fist, wedged it into her mouth, and mumbled, "mmm. horse's ovaries."

Ford looked healthier than he’d last seen him. Gone were the dark bags under his eyes and the lanky form that came from surviving on nothing but coffee and occasionally fast food; he looked good now, great even, with a sturdy, fit figure and broad shoulders that nicely filled out his button-up shirt and trench coat. He was just as tall as Fiddleford remembered, easily towering over- Over the person next to him. Fiddleford squinted. There was a man standing next to his dear old friend, short and skinny with wild and unruly hair. And the eyes… One yellow and one solid white eye glared at him with a force that was unnatural, even more so when coming from a complete stranger. Ford hadn’t mentioned this in his letter.

Before Ford could respond, a bird landed on Bill’s hand and turned to look him right in the eye. It was a goldfinch, bright yellow with black markings between its eyes and on the tips of its wings. It could be a coincidence… or it could be much worse. The way its shadow converged to a point on the ground underneath it made him think it was the latter.

Ok I watched the first tape and I regret to say that the quality is not good. The frame is squished into 4:3 and there are tracking errors up the wazoo. But it still looks very cool and aesthetic
