Back in 2001, Mr. Rogers was my college graduation speaker. And I got to give the student address!

Here's the coolest part: Mr. Rogers mentioned me, talking about how "silence and solitude" were important to him.

In other words, take the solo time you need to recharge. It’s Mr. Rogers approved.

In 2001, I was an AmeriCorps volunteer w/ Red Cross. Part of our mission was disaster response. Not long after 9/11, I went to NYC to work in the Ground Zero area. I was not working on the pile, but I was helping affected residents nearby. This is to say: AmeriCorps volunteers do important things.

It’s the winter solstice, and this weekend I’m driving an Equinox EV. It’s my first time behind the wheel of a Chevy EV, or a GM EV for that matter. The bright color on this whip is officially called Riptide Blue Metallic, and the MSRP is about $35K. Also, check out the gull that bombed this photo!!

I got to (briefly) visit the White House press briefing room today. Briefly, get it?

Thanks @outrider.org for everything.

Beautiful late fall vibes in New York City’s Riverside Park today.

Snapped this photo while enjoying some omakase last night. Anyone else appreciate how the torch’s flame resembles a fighter jet’s afterburner?

A rainy moody night down at 7 WTC. I like it.

A dramatic change has been taking place near my neighborhood subway stop over the past four years. A 34-story building has risen where a McDonald’s used to be. The tower will be housing for Columbia faculty and grad students, and Columbia says it will have a McDonald’s in it, too.

The chart below is my cholesterol level. See the plunge for the last reading? That's because I started taking a cholesterol med. Lately, there's been a lot of BS about things like vaccines, fluoride, etc, & we can expect that to continue. So remember: science-backed medicine works & saves lives.

After more than 6 years at PopSci, I just found out that today is my last day. Others were laid off, too. This is hard, but I’m so proud of the 100s of stories I wrote while there. Got a tip for an experienced journalist with a specialty in covering aviation & transportation?

Last week I sat down with Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, and JoeBen Bevirt, CEO of Joby Aviation, for a chat about electric air taxis in NYC. It was fun! And check out the vintage PopSci cover from 1976. It mentions both a VTOL (vertical take-off and landing aircraft) and heat pumps!!

I went to Texas for a conference-type thing. I acquired a cowboy hat. I wore said hat in DFW on my way home, looking very tired.

In 2018 I wrote an article for PopSci about how Delta was going to start flying some planes (A220s) with a window in the bathroom, and friends five years later I’ve finally experienced it for myself

Animals I saw today at the Minnesota State Fair. Plus, the best corn I’ve ever had.

I agree!!! Here are a couple other photos from the general area. The guy holding the stone-like things was our guide— supposedly one of the tests fused this material together. Is it smart to hold radioactive things in your hand? Seems like a good idea to wash your hands afterwards.

Seeing Oppenheimer spurs me to share some photos I took in 2013 when I visited Kazakhstan and saw where the U.S.S.R. tested its first a-bomb in 1949. (It tested others there too.) The big structure is an old monitoring station. The plastic on my shoes is to keep radioactive dust out of the treads.
