If any of the studies we critiqued wants to engage with us, we are happy to discuss global analyses anytime. As a scientific community, we need to maximize transparency, accountability, and usability, and that includes our Comment. We were sharply limited by word limits, so nuance was challenging.

Taking on writing a critical and prescriptive paper about global analyses (many of them labors of love) was daunting. We focused on constructive takeaways, while talking about the elephant in the room—that global datasets can mislead science and policy if done or communicated inappropriately.
