In Lebanon. Can hear the Israeli drone constantly now. I’ve only been back for a day but folks here deal with it 24/7, for months. It’s psychological torture. You can even see it, just flying around. The Israelis want to let everyone know that they can kill whoever they want whenever they want.

Looking for books to get for #climate curious friends & family this Christmas🎄?

Here are 6 of my favourites reads this year.

First up, Yale University historian Sunil Amrith's relentlessly edifying 'The Burning Earth'. A staggeringly comprehensive account of how we got to where we are! 🧵

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

My 4yo surprised us at dinner last month when she asked us if we knew about Rosa Parks. When we visited the classroom a couple of weeks later we saw each child had done a collage of a bus with photos of themselves sat on a bus with Rosa Parks.
Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

Police stopped me at Gatwick airport. I saw my name on the paper (the only name lol). They took all my details, address in the UK and Lebanon, phone number and email.

Police said that it was suspicious that I’m going to Lebanon as a Lebanese so I had to tell them my life story

They let me go

Just realised the ‘mansion tax’ on a £2m property is only fractionally more a month than the service charge we used to have to pay on our small two bed leasehold flat.

To frame this as being overcome by sentiment (whatever that means) is disingenuous. It’s the same thing as arguing that ‘we’ need to be ‘realistic‘ when ‘we’ aren’t the ones paying the price for a ‘realism’ that is not, in fact, ‘objective’. It is riddled with ideology.
