It seems my vague New Year’s resolution to continue drawing throughout 2026 has met the sad fate of all other half-assed resolutions.

I do often have lots of things on my plate, though. I guess that’s my excuse…

Considering that rationality can involve freedom from tradition, it occurs to me that we should perhaps be using ‘rational’ instead of ‘casewise.’

Random fact about me: when I was little, I called oil pastels “oi pastels”.

Despite having “Tags=mostly for muting” in my bio, I’m remarkably bad at tagging the beginnings of my threads.

It is tempting to speak of the therapeutic roots that #psychology and #philosophy once shared, but this would be a false metaphor, for a plant cannot abandon its roots.

I hope that whenever I get around to reading Imre Lakatos’s Proofs and Refutations, it reinvigorates my affinity for #mathematics in the same way that Knuth’s Surreal Numbers did.

Almost gutted my notes but realized I would likely end up getting rid of most of them. I think I’ll just leave them as they are, as a mere attempt at writing some kind of philosophical exposition. I suppose I’ll just start from scratch again.

Trop souvent je trouve que ma méthode c’est d’analyser quelque-chose en des parties et données. L’eau présente ses propres problèmes et situations sans nos soucis sur l’hydrogène et l’oxygène.

Some miscellaneous thoughts:

1) Based on what I've read of Kövecses's Extended Conceptual Metaphor Theory (2020), it is clear that it will not clarify the relation between domains and elements.

“Are there any ternary analogies?”

logic : proof :: rhetoric : essay :: computation : program

(Clarifying a personal confusion)

Just learned about \include and \includeonly, so I suppose my favorite may be changing. Hopefully, these will save me some time, considering that I’ve been rebuilding 500+ files over and over again 😅. I can’t believe it never occurred to me to look these up before…damn
∈ is such a great symbol. What a cute little guy

Not my favorite LaTeX command, though. That’s \input{} hands down.

Torn between reading nonfiction with my own ideas in mind vs reading it just for the sake of reading it and seeing what ideas develop organically thereafter. In the former case, I find that I have so many notes to sift through that they become quite difficult to keep up with.

There's a new version of my *Introducing Category Theory* now available -- a freely downloadable PDF and also a very-cheap-for-its-size pbk. Enough corrections/improvements to count as a "third edition". For info/link see logicmatters.net/categories
