Memory WIPSnip: But still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the filter blowing on his most complicated and delicate shrimp tank was a punishment for something he’d done in his past. There was no shortage of reasons the universe could be angry with him—a string of nonviolent crimes as a teen and young adult, years spent chasing approval of the worst people imaginable by being just as terrible himself, countless friends and acquaintances left in the wake of his reckless choices, ruining his own body and mind with a wide variety of vices. His shrimp were innocent, though. All twenty-two of them. They didn’t deserve to die because the cosmos decided a mid-October Wednesday evening was the best time for the filter to go out.
