Unfortunately, 40k has some members of it's Fandom that think the Imperium is "cool" and something to aspire to; it is supposed to be the opposite. The protagonists are, in fact, a decaying empire who do evil things and totally perverted their founders hopes for a secular, egalitarian federation.
