My students’ dark sky project service project involves improving their school’s dark sky efforts and educating our community. We just got our first Nightscape magazine in the mail. @darkskyintl.bsky.social

This discoloration is from a fungus.

For our *dark skies* project we had an astronomer come in and teach us about star gazing. He made this telescope himself!

This is a 2 day weekend project in a public middle school. It’s hard work but great community building. Our staff and PTA president are key to pulling this off.

This weekend we’re working hard reviving a native courtyard. Thank heavens for our national junior honor society kids who want to get in their service hours. They make it happen.

I recommended your book to my library so your book would get more network effect and they just informed me they agree with my rec and have ordered it.

This is such a clever way to teach tree ID. This is at Hidden Oaks nature center in Fairfax. I mean it’s also a beautiful sculpture I’d want in my house truth be told.

Please advise: How do you all explain the new lunch time to your dogs? My pup does not understand Daylight Savings time.

A photo of our troublesome wheelbarrow which was missing some bolts & went straight only IF you pointed it to the right which scared some cars in our parking lot.

A big thank you to everyone who came out this weekend.

One person was the Eco Club leader years ago and knew another couple's child who is now an environmental scientist. Everyone said some version of "That was so fun. Please call me for the next event." There's something really special about gardening together.

For today's native garden project we needed people used to working with natives because even getting plants out of pots is a skill. Master Naturalists & Gardeners pulled through. I tried to find ones whose kids went to the school which made it festive as people found old friends.

Pete launched District Native Plants in 2022 & I can't speak highly enough of him. He has patiently assisted us for over a year planning out our gardens. 🌼

This weekend we cleared out an old pollinator garden that had invasive and unproductive stuff. Today we planted this garden with local ecotypes. Thanks to Earth Sangha @earthsangha.bsky.social for the plants. Thanks to Pete Corbino who owns District Native Plants & ran the show.

November is crazy. We have 4 native middle school gardens to prep & plant. A county park to clear of invasive vines w/ 60 students & tree stewards. A 2 day Eagle Scout project. A church doing its first invasive pull. The kick off Envirothon at Graves Mountain w/ our team’s introductory training. 🌏

In his defense, Martin noted that he had no plans to harm the sculpture itself, but rather to tell a crucial story through his actions. The paint was deliberately chosen because it was washable, and the sculpture was selected because it had a protective case.
