It's wild. That makes 14 potential starters on the 40 man. Kudos to realizing starter depth is huge in today's baseball, but man does that roster seem imbalanced. Can't help but wonder if they are lining up a trade of some young starters.

Isn't that the same situation he'd have had if they had tendered him as a pre-arb player with options? Why didn't they just tender him?

Mine all have last names that begin with the same letter. Most with the same first two letters. I've often stopped and had to double check with my brain that I don't just have the lamest 'thing'...

Being traded wouldn't change their arbitration potential. Their new team may negotiate differently or if it reaches arbitration, argue differently. But the basic earning calculation is the same.
That said, some of these guys will likely be non-tendered, or not offered arb and become free agents
