I think the nature of `:trace` makes it borderline impossible to be completely safe for production. Because we potentially trace the whole VM, but can only have a single handler process, it can fall behind and the queue may grow. `:recon_trace` does some level of overload protection, but...

Why? In real world systems, your P99 and latency distribution often matter more than average times. Qtrace uses Erlang tracing to measure, with a low overhead, arbitrary function performance and output histograms and quantiles. Here's a sample output for `poolboy:checkout` during a simulated load:
