Manic Spreadsheeter (ist? izer?). Likes old anime dubs, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and that weird sticky goo that holds magazine inserts in place. Frequently wrong.

Essence of Anime DVDs all had a bunch of little variations over the life, and the UPC (01313850798) and SKU (M5057) here are reused from a version that doesn’t come with the UMD, meaning the only way to tell it apart is the shrink wrap+sticker on the front, except we know that’s really unreliable.

Japan has a native word for cellphone (携帯電話) but a loan word for bread (パン).

My Japanese teacher pointed out that often, there’s both a loan word and a native one (like ホッチキス vs 紙綴器/かみつづき for stapler), and one just ends up more popular than the other.

I needed a good excuse to order some stuff from Japan. Here’s hoping there’s something interesting on it…

I get the impression this translation leaves something to be desired, but it sure seems like a full episode with script booklet, similar to what Eigoden did with Black Jack decades later.

The FCC currently only requires it for “programming [that] previously aired on television in the U.S. with captions (or is live programming simulcast on TV in the U.S. with captions)” but it wouldn’t surprise me to see that change (no idea what I’m talking about)

My guess is Part VI underperformed, and they didn’t see the point in paying to dub an ONA series. They seem a lot less insistent on dubs for Lupin than say, Detective Conan.

No game No Life and Vinland Saga both had their English AI dubs removed, but Pet still has its English AI dub.

The Spanish AI dubs are unchanged.
