Another thing I noted - with scorn on my face, no less - is that apparently both Takeda and Mizushima mention that Ed having a prosthetic arm and leg was viewed as an obstacle to having FMA animated at the time. Because showing a character with disability on screen is objectionable why...?

It does seem some of his journalism background rubbed off on both shows, especially with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq being a well-known influence on SEED.

About the most surprising thing to learn from this article was that the 2003 FMA anime was produced by Takeda Seiji of MBS. Takeda started out in newsbroadcasting and journalism before moving on to the anime section of MBS, where he was in charge of first Gundam SEED, then FMA.

Also the staff is so stacked, it almost feels unreal - original designs by Inomata Mutsumi, anime char desings by Yuuki Nobuteru, animation direction by Kise Kazuchika, not to mention direction & script by Mashimo Kouichi. So yeah, not only is this an engaging movie, it is also incredibly pretty.
