This is a great example of what we do at Compassion in Dying - find practical solutions to help people navigate decisions when they're not being listened to.
We see lots of examples that show how policy is good but the gap between that and practice can be vast.

This is such an important point. We can't 'sort' dying just by investing in services (important though that is). We need to invest in community: its understanding, choices and agency.
There are many conversations happening now about improving dying.
They often focus on service design & resources.
What's sometimes missing is how, at the end of life, we don’t just need service change, we need culture change.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. We need both.
I have written a short piece in BMJ about why the debate about Friday's vote on the Assisted Dying Bill is smacking of medical paternalism - creating some false dichotomy between wanting better palliative care AND the right to a gentler death. We can have both, you know! www.bmj.com/content/387/...
