These ideas are stupid for many reasons. At best, they're maybe a very short term solution to avoid an imminent tipping point, but since tipping points are basically impossible to predict precisely, that's an irrelevant point.

But the notion that this technology cannot work is just wrong.
November 24, 2025 at 9:57 PM
The problem with these ideas isn't really that they can't work. Cloud seeding to increase albedo and aerosol injection probably would be effective if implemented at scale.

The problem is that the side effects are unpredictable and they basically require permanent upkeep and inputs.

Pretty sure I've experienced this but I don't understand what you mean. Are these the same websites where the browser back button doesn't work because all the navigation within the site is handled by the site itself rather than the browser?

Who tf says "not enough electrons" to mean not enough electricity or limitations of the power grid?

This is musk tier commentary

Yes inclusionary zoning should be absolutely everywhere, and also the state should be directly involved in construction, with the long term goal of eliminating segregated areas and building up a robust supply of publicly owned housing in every neighbourhood.
November 17, 2025 at 9:53 AM
Integrated neighbourhoods don't happen naturally. As long as there are desirable areas and less desirable areas, the housing in the desirable areas will always be more expensive. A totally free market will not change this, and probably make it worse.
November 16, 2025 at 10:48 PM
I think most leftists would prefer to see mass government led housing construction on par with the ambitions of European countries in the 20s and 50s/60s.

But if we must insist on treating housing strictly as a commodity rather than a public good, then these safeguards are the best we can do.
November 16, 2025 at 10:41 PM
What level of segregation do you think would be acceptable to reduce rents by, say 20%, I wonder?
November 16, 2025 at 7:57 PM
This might be a fair point if the ONLY value of these policies is lower rents for those who need them. But that isn't the case. The value of them is to avoid segregation in housing. Segregated housing is a scourge, even if the cheap (segregated) housing is very affordable.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that in a huge number of places, cycling and cycling advocacy only exist today thanks to vehicular cyclists in the 80s fighting to be allowed to cycle on extremely dangerous roads.
November 12, 2025 at 7:37 AM
And it was these groups which over time morphed into the modern cycling advocacy movement in the UK that exists today. Vehicular cycling and associated advocacy was a very reasonable response to an existential threat. The fact that some people have never moved past that is on them.
November 12, 2025 at 7:34 AM
Vehicular cycling advocacy needs to be put in the proper historical context. Many countries wanted to ban bikes from basically all roads, which would have killed off cycling for good. In the UK for example, it was vehicular cyclists who campaigned against these laws.

Incredibly funny that they can't even fully commit to a populist attack. The most timidly narrated attack ad I've ever seen (is it even professionally recorded?), and they equivocate barely 15 seconds into their own ad...

Have you considered that you might be terminally online?

It multiplies a bunch of numbers by a bunch of other numbers, does some addition, and then applies some filter.

I guess we should invent an entirely new language with a totally independent syntax and grammar for every single thought because God forbid we use the same sentence structure for different ideas.

Zelenskyy's nose doesn't look remotely like that 🤨🤨

Even if they did, unless there's a clear operational reason to do it, beyond vague "it would look prettier on the map" sentiments, it would be pretty wasteful.

Although I agree that names over number/letter codes are bad design. I feel like the tube lines are too established to change but doesn't mean they needed to make the same mistake with the overground.

As I understand it, they can't break it into two lines because Camden town is really poorly equipped for interchanging passengers.

Anyone who takes this work, while being perfectly able either to get work elsewhere, or live comfortably without this work, is choosing to fund transphobic activism and organisations. Especially if their name is being used to make the final result more profitable. None of these actors needs this job

And the Netherlands isn't even a cheap place to travel. Some of the most expensive rail fares from my experience. Goes to show the absurdity of UK pricing.

The difference is that language evolves, and meanings and spellings are determined by consensus not immutable truth or a higher authority. A "misspelling" in widespread use becomes a variant, and eventually the primary form. Not true for mathematical errors.

The house is impeccable. The car looks like an ad for Dulux.

Remove the car and the railings and replace with some nice gravel and small planting and this pic is perfection.

I understand the accessibility argument for big buttons with lights instead of latches. But why do they all have to be so convoluted? Often with 2-3 buttons performing separate functions, and little clarity about when the door is actually locked vs simply closed. I imagine this is a barrier for some
