The problem with a lengthy observation is not (primarily) its stressful nature.

It’s the extreme professional distrust that underpins it.

‘Do what you normally do- we’re not trying to catch you out’ simply cannot apply in this circumstance.

The new OFSTED inspection frame work is worse than the last:

One newly qualified teacher was observed “for the best part of two-and-a-half hours during the two days, which is way more than anything you would have ever expected under the old framework”.

Got royally cussed today.

‘Sir, you sound like your voice is AI.’

😳

(What does this even mean?? I dunno but I’m taking offence).

Morning,

A request for help:

I recently moved up north (near Bolton) and I’ve been on supply ever since.

I need a permanent job. Science teacher. 20yrs exp.

Schools don’t always advertise on the TES so if anyone knows anyone, please pass this on?

I’d really appreciate it!

There was a time when in English, Science (and others) coursework was worth 20-25%.

Kids would all - by sheer coincidence of course - get A*s for coursework, D/Es for the exam and therefore a C overall.

The school would then reach its 5A-C target.

Please- never again.

According to the latest research, going to the dentist in half term has the same impact on teacher wellbeing as going to the tip in half-term.

I swear to God if another kid tries to get me to say 6,7 again I’m gonna shave my head with a cheese grater.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but early passes shouldn’t be given out so liberally at schools.

If you’re teaching a class and 4-5 kids have one, you can pretty much write off the last 7-8 mins of your lesson.

It’s not fair- unless the child has a medical condition.

As behaviour is a significant reason for teachers leaving the profession, I genuinely believe that a centralised behaviour policy should be made compulsory in all schools.

Fact:

If you even show one iota of resemblance to another teacher at your school, kids automatically assume you’re related.

Uniformity is not the same as consistency.

Well led schools understand the difference, while poorly led schools make you put the school logo on every ppt slide; same font, same colour, etc all in the name of ‘consistency’ across the board.

A discussion over a hot chocolate is not a consequence for poor behaviour.

Yet another school where staff have walked out because sanctions have been replaced by farcical alternatives:

Not sure how true this is, but fair play:

If you go bald as a result of the stress caused by being a teacher, it’s only right that school should pay damages.

New phrase in teaching:

Urinary Martyrdom

When teachers talk about ‘not weeing for X amount of hrs’ as if it’s something to be celebrated.

A random reminder that nothing is more important than your health.

Protect it all costs. Assert your boundaries unabashedly.

Remove yourself from any situation in which it’s not respected.

I don’t know which teacher needs to hear this, but snatching every individual sheet the moment it leaves the photocopier won’t make it photocopy any faster.
