Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

Republican death squads roam American cities.
Awful: New report shows federal agents fired into civilian vehicles 13 times since July, with 8 people hit and two dead. These are heavily armed government militias gone rogue, not bound or accountable to law, unleashing violence on Americans with full White House sanction.

Our exchange on this:

I just saw someone use the term "slopulism" and it's a very good word.

I don't mean to be Polyanna-ish, but history is littered with examples of change being collectively forced on rulers who think themselves omnipotent, often starting from things that seem small, and examples of strongmen overreaching towards their doom. In fact that *is* the paradigm, on the whole.

There is a threat to Minneapolis so extreme that *every child in the city* has been forced to stay home from school.

That threat does not come from immigrants.

There has only been one murder in Minneapolis in 2026. It was federal agents' killing of a 37 year-old US citizen/mother in her minivan.

For months, Trump’s DHS has wreaked lawless havoc in our neighborhoods. Tear gassing infants, families, and police. Firing their weapons at peaceful citizens. Killing innocent people.

It’s brutal, unconstitutional, and out of control.

It must stop.

more seriously, I do genuinely think it was a mistake to go from: 'the project of bureaucratic rationality has at times been poorly implemented in biased ways, we must fix this' to 'the project of bureaucratic rationality is inherently unjust, we must replace it with [worse thing]'
Very bleakly funny that circa-2012-2015 conservatives have been totally vindicated in their arguments against the postmodern turn in parts of academia, the embrace of ‘ways of knowing’, rejection of bureaucratic rationality, etc.…because they embraced all those things and it was indeed a disaster

In the last several weeks Trump and his regime have essentially announced that they now view Trump as Emperor of the Americas, including the United States of America; and they are no longer bound by Constitution, domestic US law, the UN Charter, International Law, and Senate-ratified treaties.
Here is the Trump Doctrine, as articulated by Stephen Miller in his truly frightening interview with Jake Tapper this afternoon. It is very much like the doctrine of the dictators we fought and defeated in World War II and of Putin today. It is un-American at its very core.
