Very occasionally I write nerdy things about F1 here -> https://medium.com/@umakschually

(No it isn't actually me in the header)
clearly not a significant reduction in speed as I have been told

How is it irrelevant to the incident if it's the reason it happened in the first place?
Also Lawson slowed down significantly, he didn't steer towards the marshals who were moving away from the direction he was driving to, and had he not slowed enough he would've gotten a penalty don't you agree?

Accurate representation of the data the F1 teams have about their cars and the publicly available telemetry data.
You can still tell it's a horse but you can't truly know any details

LEC definitely did hold up NOR and I don't think anybody is arguing against that. But considering the VSC was in lap 6-7 and the "DRS train" ended with the VSC and didn't start up again where instead the gaps between HAM and PIA kept increasing saying LEC held the whole pack up is wrong. That's it

bc I am bored another viz this time with VER as the reference that shows the same

I think saying he held the pack up is overstating the situation a bit when you actually look at how the gaps between the drivers developed throughout the race.
bc nothing changed when he pitted and was no longer in the way. Esp. PIA was equally holiding RUS up bc he couldn't get close to HAM

more comparisons!
HAMs last lap is also removed here.
PIA really was nowhere in comparison.

Since the Ferraris were on opposite strategies I compared their fuel corrected* medium and soft stints.
And the real difference in the race was the medium stint where HAM had more deg much earlier. Their soft stints are honestly surprisingly similar (HAMs last lap was removed for viz purposes)

This truly is hilarious

Sorry to point out a factual error but according to the official FIA documents available on their website only HAMs car was disqualified for plank wear. LECs car was disqualified for not making the minimum weight requirement. A fairly simple thing to fact check.

As late add on to the radio discussion from yesterday I finally had a chance to check the technical regs and if there are any radios not Broadcast it's FOMs choice the teams have no say

FYI here you can see him both press the button and the light going on while he speaks and then he presses the button again because he is done. And this also shows the time delay.

it didn't happen but at least Ferrari asked. because that is what you usually do. you let one guy try and if it doesn't work you swap them back (but this is giving Brazil 22 RBR 😂 even though swapping now would've been harder)
but I guess it is also a lession learnt for Leclerc
September 21, 2025 at 12:40 PM
Charles and Lewis having different approches when it comes to at least some corners makes for very funny looking time deltas 😂
(also the gps data availble to us is not accurate enough to truly draw too many conclusions this is interpolated. but in this case it looks like it fits with the pedal data)

I really need to add how much faster the hypothetical lap actually was.
anyway, caveat for HAMs hypothetical lap: he got a massive tow for his fastest S3 which is where those -0.217s that the hypothetical lap is faster come from.
for LEC the hypothetical lap would've been -0.048s faster than HAM

As I have a life again I'm messing around with my plots again.
So as I update them to work with the fastf1 changes be prepared to be slowly bombarded with plots 😂

As the cherry on top of the absolute shit cake my last few months have been my parents had to put down our cat today.
He was 16 and had a wonderful life but it just sucks extra because he is the only one I didn't get to say goodbye to.

That middle stint on mediums pace from Ferrari really shouldn't be underrated imo
April 14, 2025 at 4:21 PM
in more Ferrari related news it was also the same chicane (16-17) that allowed LEC to get ahead of RUS. However in this case it was LEC having a better exit out of 17 that made he difference
April 5, 2025 at 8:21 AM
it's even more jarring when you compare the two McLarens. NOR was up almost 3 tenths going into turn 16 and then just loses pretty much his entire advantage and only just barely manages to stay ahead.
April 5, 2025 at 8:10 AM
This really should've been such an easy Norris pole but he majorly messed up turn 16-17. he essentially loses everything on the entry into 16

My love, my light, my lord and saviour!!!
We may have our disagreements at times (weird errors whose source I can't find) but I have to apologise for having taken you for granted!!!

(Sorry I am going through it rn, this is a word induced mental breakdown)
