I started a new job this week, and I'm working as an engineering manager in the healthcare industry. After being in tech for so long, it's nice to know that our goals are to help people at the end of the day rather than make people buy a new cell phone every 12 months or whatever

Dan Hollick is back with a new chapter of his excellent "Making Software" series. In this installment he demystifies computer graphics programs called shaders with his usual panache combining excellent text explanations with playful diagrams

After selling my console, I started a studio revamp to mix in the box. I'm surprised at how much I like it despite the tactile control loss (I don't have a mix controller). I am finally getting my outboard hooked up, and it's pretty magical. Planning for another console someday but this ain't bad

Discovered my Grandmother's seafood gumbo recipe in my files, which I thought had been lost. It's one of the most memorable dishes for me she ever made, and many loved it. Now I get to try my hand at it! In Galveston we would go out and catch fresh Gulf blue crab and buy live shrimp from the marina

Amazing video of Peter Vogel and Kim Ryrie, the founders of Fairlight, explaining how they made the revolutionary computer musical instrument. All of the machine's code fit on an 8" floppy disk of around 500kB

Recently came upon this fascinating site wtfhappenedin1971.com. Reminded me the Powell Memo started circulating in 1971. Read @davidsirota.com‘s new book on the plane today and … yeah that sure happened and is still happening. How can we back away from normalized corruption?

Enjoyed hearing Dieter Doepfer's story in the most recent Why We Bleep podcast. Dieter was always super friendly to me at trade shows, even though early on I was a nobody. His genuine love for making synthesizers is infectious

I always love those lists of "35 under 35," but as I get older, I find that I would love to know about innovations/art from people over 65. "65 over 65" please. Elders have incredible ideas that are the result of having seen the full lifecycle of previous ideas and learned from it.

Just returned from a weekend camping trip with friends on Whidbey Island. It might have been the best campground I have ever seen, nestled in the tall trees with trails to a dramatic bluff and beach. The world can be harsh, but this part for these few days was nourishing
