The big problem that I've come to realise from all of this is that it's incredibly difficult to do any of this ethically. Someone in the middle is always going to lose out somewhere in the middle and I think that makes this whole thing more nuanced than I gave it credit for.

If we're talking about Larian, they're using it for personal inhouse references for their actual living concept artists. That's the one time it's actually okay. Especially as the concept artists are being paid to draw real art. Most artists use references from many sources including other artists.
