While fossil CO2 emissions rise again and carbon sinks are weakened by climate change, deforestation emissions are down and many countries decarbonise their energy.

Global energy demand continues to increase despite progress in many countries. The #GlobalCarbonBudget forecasts a 0.8% increase in coal, 1% in oil, and +1.3% for gas use. Weakened natural carbon sinks now account for 8% of atmospheric CO2 rise since 1960.

#GlobalCarbonBudget 2025 📈

Global fossil fuel CO2 emissions are projected to rise by 1.1% in 2025, reaching a record 38.1 billion tonnes. The remaining #CarbonBudget for limiting warming to 1.5 degrees C (170 billion tonnes of CO2) could be used up before 2030.
