But when House of Cards debuted, I wrote a story exploring how we would know whether the show was a hit, given the lack or ratings. My conclusion: if Netflix was still making eps of it (and ordering more shows), we’d know it was a success. I still think that’s (sort of) true?

Yes, to a degree. Nielsen reports on the biggest streaming hits and has data that doesn’t always get published but studios can see. It’s possible to know when something’s very big and often when it’s little seen. It’s harder for me to judge degree of success.
