people complain about php being awful, but i don't think it's actually that bad. like at least there's type hinting, and you can declare types for your parameters

in js, you can turn on strict mode, but how much does that matter without type declarations? i just need to spend more time with it, idk

I do that with PHP--it's very easy to know what will break when and how if I decide a function is doing too much and needs to be split into other, smaller ones.

In JS? Entirely different experience; I never know what's actually going on or why so I end up with spaghetti that works, but oh my god

I mean at this point I'm strongly considering that, but if I learn a library, I'll only know the library, I won't know the actual language and that's what I'm trying to learn here through doing it the hard way. It's just... really frustrating
