increasingly convinced that Astel is the failed "attempt to forge a lord" by the Nox and the Eternal cities. Nokstella has the signature petrified bodies, and Lusat's Glintstone Crown is an Astel / Fallingstar Beast eye, so we know that transformation is within the realm of possibility.

last common ancestor i guess lol

Visually, Enir-Elim is covered in countless distorted, petrified bodies screaming and reaching upwards towards the Divine Gate, the site of Marika's ascension. The gate itself is also made of bodies, writhing in the cinematic where Marika ascends, petrified later.

to get even wilder, Millicent is probably borrowed from a poem by Edward Gorey: ninaalvarez.net/2007/10/22/p...

Here's what the titular god looks like, along with Astel, for comparison:

wait, is this it?

this is in fact NOT elric (it's the cast of Final Fantasy 2) but you could easily be forgiven for getting them confused lol

Michael Whelan did many of the most famous Elric covers (and is probably one of the influences on Yoshitaka's work) and he ALSO did this art for a Lovecraft anthology that prominently features an eyeball and a gaunt, pale figure (not Elric obviously) images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5...
