The top 1% alone own roughly half of all stocks.

It's worth pointing out once again that the stock market is not the economy.

Lake Powell is about to fall below the level at which it generates power through the turbines. The Colorado is fucked and so Vegas, Phx, LA, and Tucson are fucked. And we're still out here playing games with data centers in our desert. Beale and Blue Owl need to take their data center to Greenland.

The big tech corporations control more wealth than many countries and were out here giving them tax breaks so they can give us 75 jobs, increased electricity bills, take our water in a major drought in the desert, and in rease our reliance on fossil fuels to power these monstrosities? Wtf?
Tim Steller's column: Arizona Legislature should end data center incentives
For Star subscribers: Data centers have proliferated in Arizona and are backed by some of the world's richest companies. So why are we giving them a sales-tax break?

From 2018 to 2024, the tax rate paid by eight major retailers was slashed from 30% to just 17.5%.

The CEOs of those major retailers were paid a collective $1.3 billion.

Meanwhile, the average worker at those stores was paid less than $32,000 in 2024.

Nothing trickled down.

Today's abysmal jobs report is a reminder that tax cuts for corporations and the rich don’t create jobs or grow the economy.

What's required is investment in working people — and better wages.

When workers have money to spend, the economy grows and businesses create more jobs.

Remember this.
