there's flash forwards where, on account of his choice of difficulty, he's stuck on level 60 while the others he keeps contact with through events are out of the tower and on earth, and that gap genuinely feels like murder (esp since these often are paired w reminiscing about the NPCs of a level)

effectively, unlike other "tower" stories the MC is Extremely Alone in the path he chose, and there's no going back levels, only a community board and occasional events

the author is very dedicated in showing how much this fucks the mcs brain up Severely in ways i wasn't expecting
