Dear science. Why are there glowing pale specks in my sink when my eyes dark adapt. What is causing this. Discarded phosphorescent pigment from previous owners maybe? (if it'd last through years of scrubbing ceramic?) or something biological? which probably needs disinfected right?

I believe in social policies which try to maximize people's options, geared towards minimizing harm (eg I'd rather see autonomy like someone who robbed a store while armed getting a second chance at life than autonomy like being able to easily exploit others and amass billions)

Music service subscriptions kind of make sense to me in a way. I want to buy music I care about but I'm also willing to throw a few bucks a month at the ability to pull up random music to check it out. But so many of the services just... suck. They often aren't worth the cost right?

Jira's new automations have been around for like 5 years but rule audit logs can still only be filtered by date/time and audit log id. You can't filter out "No Actions Performed" status, you can't filter to show only Errors or Some Errors statuses. WHY NOT?

Sometimes discord complains it couldn't deliver a message, and the issue turns out to be that the message was already delivered (but I guess the client didn't realize, so it was retrying a request whose id had already succeeded?). Why does the error handler not check that...

Putting a URL into my browser and hitting enter should load the URL, not attempt to look for some cached Javascript reload-handler for that URL. I don't like Javascript mentality. Yes it makes "web apps" behave better but imho a document system like the web isn't the right place for responsive UIs!

bareback pointers are really sexy which is why I like C but you have to always make sure your rhythm of malloc/free is perfect (and even then, the rhythm method is still problematic especially when you are building complex software, which becomes a veritable orgy of dereferencing)

highly impressed at how easy it is to use mount to find volume, lvscan to get canonical name, lvextend -L +nnG to add nn gigs, then xfs_growfs on the mountpoint to grow the fs to the new size. four commands to make any xfs-backed directory bigger without even umount/remount? incredible
