Actually, there am numerous studies which show that if you are taking to a political extremist using data, you harden their positions not convince or persuade them. That is why you have to focus on helping them find the cognitive dissonance within themselves.

It isn’t about taking with those with whom you actually care about to convince. It is about asking questions to help those who lives are lived in ways that are incongruent with what they support politically to find within themselves th cognitive dissonance.

Typically, they are a result of people talking past each other, rather than actually talking to each other.

With those whom we are closest to in life — family or friends — there is far more to the relationships than our political identities and we have spent an incredibly amount of time researching such divides.

This is true, but it is also the case that rarely are such fractures 100% the fault of only one side. It is a little like insure and car accidents.

I say in the piece of someone has personally dehumanized you you don’t need them in your lives, but you should not assume based on their politics they are doing that personally anymore than they should assume based on anything about you.

I appreciate the comment & feel what you are saying. That said here is a response to the comments. Typically, I try to respond individually, but in this case the volume has overwhelmed me which I think is a good thing! Thanks for the thoughts!

They deserve a response: What You Are Actually Saying When You Say You Are Done Talking — Moral Clarity without relationship leaves only judgement. Judgement without connection won’t fix what is broken

First, I appreciate all the comments. Second I felt like they deserve a response. Typically, I try to do that individually, but the volume is such that in this case I decided to do it via a follow up which attempts to answer the vast majority in bulk.

And again, you point is? Two wrongs don’t make a right. If you read the post you would know I specifically make the point that on either side it is above politics. You literally demonstrate the point I was making and not in the way you think.

I have spent the past twenty five years married to one.

That is true, he was, and even if you disagreed with much of what he was saying, your right to say what you believe depends on his.

And your point is?

Totally which is why I called it out. Ironically the AI basically admitted it was exactly that.

That is the challenge!

Try telling it to go “f” itself — or when I build agents I now have a Rule #1 — NEVER F-;&ing LIE!!!!! If you don’t know an answer or how to do something just say so.

It still lies but I just prompt WTF is Rule #1

Btw Claude is way better with Rule 1 than the others, already in my experiences

I agree with you on this. AI and all tech is either built for empowering humans or (as most of it is now) for exploiting them. And I knew with about ten minutes it couldn’t do what it was promising to do, I found some humor is just letting it go.
