AI Accuracy: Security Tool or Security Issue?
The new autumn season of TDL webinars began with a look at the questions surrounding AI accuracy, and the extent to which it is a help or a hindrance in managing cybersecurity. Numerous examples of AI “hallucinations” are posted every day, ranging from humorous to concerning. With most cybersecurity players now using LLM based AI and AI agents, the issue of accuracy becomes increasingly important. But its importance hasn’t made the issue clearly defined. The panel shared views on several aspects of AI accuracy: - Is AI accuracy clearly measurable? - Do these metrics need to be standardised? - In which ways is AI accuracy relevant to security and privacy threats? - Can perceived accuracy (by users) lead to additional subtle security and privacy attacks? The event was moderated by TDL Strategic Advisor, Claire Vishik. The expert speakers included: - John Baras, Distinguished University Professor and endowed Lockheed Martin Chair in Systems Engineering, University of Maryland - Lorenzo Cavallaro, Professor, Computer Science, University College London - Melvin Greer, SVP & Chief Data Scientist, TechElevate Innovation Labs - Cory Robinson, Private consultant in data governance, privacy, data ethics & AI ethics

CPS (Cyber Physical Systems) and IoT: Evolution, security & privacy challenges.
As the IoT definition became very broad, a new term, CPS (cyber physical systems) overlapping with IoT emerged.  CPS are systems that have a computing component, communication component and a physical subsystem. In 2016, NIST released a comprehensive CPS framework that included assessment tools for its trustworthiness.  Since then, technology has moved forward.  With the advent of comprehensive edge computing, extensive use of AI at the edge and in low power devices and other innovations, security and privacy challenges for CPS and IoT also evolved. During the webinar, moderated by TDL strategic advisor, Claire Vishik, a group of panelists discussed the current state of the CPS/IOT architectures, their security and privacy and innovative solutions to improve their safety and security. - Henk Birkholz, Principal Architect, Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT); Data Science Manager, Leibniz Institute for Materials Engineering - IWT - Gonda Lamberink, Director of Cyber Security M&A, Bureau Veritas - Gisela Meister,  Eurosmart, Senior Adviser - Jesus Molina, CEO, Jadebrain Inc; Lecturer, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - Sarb Sembhi, Founder, Security2Live; CTO/CISO, Virtually Informed; Co-chair, Smart-built Environment Group, IoT Security Foundation

The Evolution of Computing
There is a lot of research on the various types of tradeoff, from usability to performance, associated with security and privacy technologies. It is commonly understood that solutions in these areas need to minimise these tradeoffs to be successful. But what is the reference influence? How do security, privacy and trust considerations affect the overall development of computing technologies? This topic is not well studied. During the webinar, moderated by TDL strategic advisor, Claire Vishik, a group of panelists discussed various aspects of this connection and what the technologies we use today and will use tomorrow owe to innovation in security and privacy. - Elisa Bertino, Samuel D. Conte Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, Purdue University and research director at CERIAS (the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security) - Domenic Forte, Professor and Steven A. Yatauro Fellow, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Florida; Associate Director, Florida Institute for National Security (FINS) - Sandip Ray, Warren B. Nelms Endowed Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Florida - Steven Murdoch, Professor of Security Engineering and Head of the Information Security Research Group, University College London)
