I sometimes wonder what it's like to cut everything off. No news, social media, nor outside information. Sure, ignorance is bliss but surely an unexamined life would only lead to repression and missing big events right?

As we speed away from Midsummer, I am contemplating the cycles of life and how all emotions play into these cycles. Emotions are triggers and reactions, and yet, they can be examined. I strive to be a better person, to listen more, and quiet the inner voices of rage and ignorance.

You do not have to do anything perfectly. Want to do art? draw stick figures. Want to run? spend a few weeks walking. Want to play music? Get the cheapest instrument you can find and suck at it. It's ok to be bad at something as long as you enjoy it. #everyonestartssomewhere #dowhatmakesyouhappy

As we approach Beltane I try to remind myself to be humble. The trees, the flowers, the birds, all of nature would be better without us. This garden world is a gift that should be cherished for it does not need us, we need it.

Nature is complex and there are no easy definitions. Categories provide boxes that constrict more than help. I work on the premise that everything is a spectrum that is messy and I, in no way, have the solutions. Listen to those that live those experiences and ignore those that offer narrow answers.

Rage at injustice at the macro level should turn into action at the micro level. Don't just sit and stew at the evils of the world, instead channel that anger to cleaning up your favorite trail, volunteering at a small charity, or planting native flowers. Do something unexpected, local, and kind.

The truth is granite under our feet. Sometimes it can be covered up, forgotten among the walk, or hidden, but it is as silent and immovable. If it is not where we think it is, or if we discover it accidentally it can hurt to hit. But you build your foundation on it and you will be sturdier for it.

The liberation of Auschwitz came far too late for many. And all it took was 80 years for many to forget that horror. I am sorry to the departed who had to endure, and to those still living who survived without their family and friends. You deserved better.

I wonder about the solution as a society to someone who has committed terrible actions. I worry when we respond immediately with violence or retribution, as if those things heal the victims or change the behavior. There is the cathartic release but is that really all we should strive for?

When I remember my days as a teenager I imagined myself, but just back then. This is an illusion.
I'm not who I was, nor who I will be. Learn from the past, but also learn to move on. You have grown and changed. And that is healthy.

I have found that it is vital to keep both the macro and micro in your sights. The larger universe and the insignificance of the problems on earth at the same time as the wonder and magic of a single leaf of a tree. Both are necessary to find your place in this world. #asabovesobelow #pagansky
