Elon Musk doesn't let many people see my tweets on his personalized version of Twitter, but 100% of the people who saw and responded to my poll over there favored Antifa over Fa.

I know that the fascist takeover of the USA should be our main focus on this #NoKings Day, but I ran across this photo again and I'm obsessed with the question of why people spend money, time, and pain to get a bizarre #MarALagoFace.

Is it to please the King?

In Thomas Pynchon's Vineland (1990), an extended family in Reagan's 1984 America argues about "...whether the United States still lingered in a prefascist twilight, or whether that darkness had fallen long stupefied years ago..." (p.371)

There's no longer a debate, is there?

It's a red letter day, but I promised myself I'd finish re-reading the last 30 pages of Vineland before I crack open Shadow Ticket, which arrived in your local bookstore today! #ThomasPynchon

Hey @nytimes.com, Maybe it's because it has *nothing* to do with crime. Maybe it has to do with intimidating voters in blue cities while rural and suburban voters feel completely free to exercise their rights?

The U.S.A. already had one of the highest incarceration rates among third-world tinpot dictatorships *before* Trump 2.0. What happens to that rate with the federalization of D.C. and all his immigrant concentration camps?

Goodnight Bluesky.

I leave you a poem by Kwame Dawes from the current issue of The New Yorker that I can't get out of my head: "Bob Marley, Live, 1980"

All this kitschy art from Secretary Puppykiller's department reminds me of the style of painting embraced by the Third Reich.

The mail just arrived. I have to time travel, leaving 2025 America behind to spend a few hours in Paris and London in 1990.

Last night's must-see episode of South Park is even braver and more vicious in its attacks on its cowardly Paramount overlords than it is on Donald Trump (and it pulls zero punches in mocking Trump).

Vichy is the *perfect* analogue.

I re-read Robert O. Paxton's "Vichy France" (1972) earlier this year [for some reason] and the slow surrender of major institutions is a large part of that sad history.

Paxton taught history at Columbia for decades.

My son discovered the Dead and Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen in my CDs and LPs, and now he just returned the favor by sending me a CD of one of his favorites.

Jason Isbell's 'Foxes in the Snow' is the 'Blood on the Tracks' of 2025.
