Aussie nerd for games that promise to waste thousands of hours or make me cry. Will fawn over almost any animal. Currently annoying all my friends with a years-long guitar phase.

My rarely-updated vegan icecream recipe site: https://thechurningbush.com/
I've seen to what degree plants can hybridize, they make humans look thoroughly chaste in their ability to spread their DNA around.

Looking at you, Triticum aestivum.

My partner's favourite similar example is 'cholesterol free vegetable oil': cholesterol is an animal hormone.

Interested in what you're defining GMOs as there - DNA from one organism expressed in another?
November 25, 2025 at 1:59 AM
For sure! Like one of the meat dishes on the table almost certainly was an animal fed on something GM. Though I doubt the 'offending' DNA survived digestion.

Mostly soy, canola and corn, though not exclusively of course. Anyway, the GM panic is weird to me because like, it's essentially a sourcing panic? Like what, we spray Bt toxins on something and that's organic but in GM crops it's super processed and artificial? They are the same molecules!

How does she feel about corn? Most corn's GM.

Same team as Limbo yeah? I get what you're saying.

Thought: Are the Danes the French of Scandinavia?
Makes you think.

Completely agreed! There are other ways in which I think it'd be interesting that I'm not going to go into for fear of spoilers, but I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts as you go through the season, especially since I know you mentioned playing F:NV recently.
November 24, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Obviously carefully wording this to avoid spoilers for you or anyone else, but when you get to it, and you will know it instantly, I hope you get to picture it delivered to Goggins.
November 24, 2025 at 9:59 PM
This, but don't gender swap anyone else. There's a particular, uh, solicitation of Ella Purnell's character from midway through season 1 that I would desperately love to see delivered to Walton Goggins just for how he played the reaction afterwards.

The one exception was when we had a tradie in the lab one day who was from an Aboriginal group up north who used to burn sugarcane when he was a kid, so when he walked into the room it was like the scene from Ratatouille.
November 24, 2025 at 8:02 PM
Exactly how I'd describe it, though I think it is rare over here. I'm only familiar with it because at my old job we got it in 20kg buckets from an animal feed supplier for cheap and used it to feed fruit flies. People didn't like the smell when I was preparing the mixture and would avoid the room.

Checked a few Aussie recipes for gingerbread and found some requiring the use of golden syrup one and some that need molasses. One from the SBS* used golden syrup and 'black treacle'. The one I trust most specifies molasses or golden syrup and emphasizes *not* blackstrap molasses.

Okay just found the wikipedia page Ryan is referring to, and even from it's own description this seems wrong to me? Like correct me if I'm wrong but blackstrap molasses for you Americans is a subtype of molasses, specifically the darkest, yeah? while treacle in the image is clearly way lighter.
November 24, 2025 at 7:44 PM
oh, interesting! Thought it'd be too bitter for that.

In general molasses is not used much in Australian cooking, we tend to go for what we call 'golden syrup', which is a quite a bit lighter. I think you'll even see molasses called 'dark golden syrup' here.
November 24, 2025 at 7:39 PM
I think treacle is way lighter and more on the regular molasses side of things, yeah? I don't think the British are like regularly using blackstrap in cooking. Is blackstrap molasses used over there at all? Because here in Australia I've only ever used it in Drosophila melanogaster food.

My medical doctor friend once showed me a photo of her mid caesarean, so I now know what her insides look like. So I suggest getting a medical degree and becoming so jaded to the human body that surgery isn't gross anymore.

What sort of attacks are we talking about? Have these attempts on your life left you scarred and deformed?
November 24, 2025 at 11:16 AM
Is being attacked while you're smiling a typical problem for you?

Considering all his roadkill stories it's not the most disgusting thing he's probably eaten, but it is ironic when you consider he won't consume paracetamol.

Between this and cops using machine learning to determine where to police, we're really speedrunning all of the dystopian near-future science fiction of my youth, huh?

We have built the eugenicist torment nexus from the classic 1997 film 'here's why you shouldn't make the eugenics torture nexus'.
