A riddle wrapped in a taco shell and deep fried, with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Transformers fan. Sometimes a monkey.
It's beside your post's point, but I had to pipe up and give mad props to the DP for this sequence, because that camera work is beautiful. Accentuates the music and performance without distracting from it.

Bringing it back to your point, I sincerely doubt a generative algorithm could pull this off.

Dang, that is (if you'll pardon the expression) quite transformative. Really makes it distinct!

I must say I really do miss the days when every vaguely action-oriented movie got a kids toyline (no matter HOW inappropriate it was for the age group!) Some just really wild and bizarre and occasionally awesome things made it into the toybox.

*nod* I knew what it was from (the teensy Stargate gave it away if nothing else), but the actual figure and weapon are so generic and have such passing resemblance to the film character that I could have believed it was from any number of contemporary or near-contemporary movie toylines.

I look at this and can't help but think "what toyline was THIS repurposed from?"

Definitely a memorable one for me. I think I rented it or maybe just borrowed it, but I always remember it looking amazing, and sounding great. And kicking my ass, but at least it looked great!

Is it Zelenka? For me it would be Zelenka.

This is admittedly way out of my realm of experience, but that would seem only to apply if a judge actually made any kind of ruling or opinions, while it seems like settlements are usually made entirely outside of court. Seems like the best you can usually hope for is the lawyer getting paid.
November 16, 2025 at 9:51 PM
And if they do pay out, it's a usually a settlement and doesn't set a legal precedent other people can reference for other cases. Not a legal expert, just my observations.
November 16, 2025 at 9:36 PM
Yeah, but they can afford to drop money on lawyering sufficient enough to make any win or settlement way insufficient to cover the costs. You're only winning this if you have unlimited time and don't care about money. This is how so many big companies get away with stuff.

I halfway want to get this for my mom and tell her it's a Hudson & Rex action figure set (Canadian show she's gotten way in to). I don't think she'd go for it though, so probably a bad idea.

If it was, they would have been banned before they made the post. You're not thinking 4th-dimensionally!

Recently had an MRI on my brain, and the term they used in the result was "unremarkable." That rankled my ego just a tiny bit, but it illustrates what happens when they DON'T find anything very nicely.

The version that's most commonly been on my mind was one where a copy of the protagonist is uploaded to an idealized preferred new synthetic body, rather than a virtual space existence. Might be why the anger/resentment element comes to the fore for me so much.
November 14, 2025 at 11:03 PM
Having personal agency is perhaps even MORE important for a digital copy of oneself than in the real. After all, there might be no end to the number of potential copies.

Hey, we're not born knowing how to be. We might have tendencies, but those are significantly shaped by lived experience. We absolutely need examples to model our behavior on, or show us why we shouldn't. In a very real sense, you (and everyone) needs a movie or *something* to learn not to be an ass.

Mind you, Black Mirror proposed a number of scenarios where that would really be the preferable result...

I sometimes ponder the anger, frustration, and resentment of waking up from whatever scanning procedure and realizing you're NOT the version living in digital paradise, but rather the meat version that has to keep on living in real space.
