The plants are starting to grow! I added some leaf litter today to help support the ecosystem. They’ll be a food source for snails, as well as a host for biofilms and other microorganisms

Update! Here’s the aquarium now. The water’s still a bit cloudy, but it’s clearing up. Overall happy with the turnout! Now to impatiently wait for the plants to grow in

Filling the tank and it’s really cloudy. Honestly, this is only my second Walstad attempt and I don’t think I had enough soil or gravel to cover the soil 😬 but we won’t be discouraged! It’ll either work or it won’t and we’ll learn from the experience either way

Going to be re-doing this tank today! Unfortunately the substrate is depleted of nutrients and it’s got a Cyanobacteria invasion. I’ll be doing a #walstad method, using a layer of soil capped with a layer of gravel.
