Came across this song and album and artist that made me legit euphoric yesterday. I'm not very pop savvy and had never heard of Rahim Redcar before, he's incredible. Was so delighted bumping this on my bike bluetooth speaker on the way home.

And great timing, today is #bandcampfriday! […]

What's a nice indoor place easily transit-able from downtown that has lunch and also space/stuff for a preschooler to be themselves and have fun? Like a McDonald's PlayPlace but nicer? Or anything else in the same spirit.

In the world of tech there are the easy problems, like putting a human on the moon, and there are the hard problems, like getting fullscreen slideshow mode to work while presenting in a video meeting.

I've been listening to Andrea Pitzer's Next Comes What for the last year and it continues to be a really good analysis of the Trump era as well as how we can lead ourselves to action rather than despair. And never an ad or anything grifty. Strongly recommend.

[Alcohol, food]

Most non-alcoholic spirit substitutes leave me unexcited and/or are way full of sugar, but doing a shot of balsamic vinegar feels like the same energy as doing a shot of whiskey.

(Though it's playing with fire if you're prone to GERD like I am.)

Do you blog? Tell me about it!

I'm looking for little blogs to read. The less popular, the better.

TIL "steer into the skid" just means steer into the direction you want to go. Car starts turning to the right? Steer to the left.

It should be called "steer away from the skid", that would make a lot more sense.

There's an upcoming lunchtime zoom talk by SPS board member Joe Mizrahi on how increasing the supply of affordable housing in our city can (among other things) help save SPS from our enrollment and […]

I was going to do a thing today but then I realized my xterm font colors were ugh so I spent two hours fixing that instead.

My 9-year-old heard the term RPG and is curious. Neither he nor we his adults know anything about TTRPGs, so I'm trying to learn more about what it would mean in practice.

A little apprehensive because when he gets into a thing he wants to do it nonstop every day and TBH I don't know if I […]

There was a moment when it looked like leftish people were actually about to quit Substack (which not only coddled Nazis but *paid* VC money to specific alt right hatemongers to attract them).

But after that seeming inflection point the mildly left said, meh, not a big deal, and flocked back to it.

I'm trying to use Bad Bunny's "you have 4 months to learn Spanish" taunt as a personal goal to get at least a little better at my beginner Spanish by February, but the going is slow 🙁

I've been studying the Barbara Bregstein book and watching PBS' Destinos. (Don't want apps.) The main problem […]

Apparently there are ICE cameras in both the Home Depot (SODO) and Lowes (Mt Baker) parking lots in south Seattle.

These companies are not your friends.

This is a great guide!

For example, to pronounce the
'dha' in dharma (धर्म) you want the voiced aspirated dental stop (4th row, 4th column). Stop saying "डार्मा"!

Dragnet facial recognition surveillance is already worse than we think. People (mostly Black) are already being jailed over false positives. Meanwhile the rate of false positives for White men is very low.

Bought a pair of nice jeans on eBay for $30, which seemed like a good idea at the time. "Nice" (in case you are not a jeans snob) means saturated with enough indigo for a thousand normal pairs of jeans, which will bleed profusely on all your other […]

Dang for some reason I thought "S tier" meant "shit tier", like, a really bad tier.

No idea how many opinions in this time I have misunderstood to mean the exact opposite of what the speaker intended.

I often think about flipping language and using the term "expat" to refer to myself and other brown immigrants in a majority-White country.

But it never quite feels right. Like, I don't really feel like an expat. I'm an immigrant. I want to reclaim the word "immigrant", not replace it with a […]

Yoooo #Seattle! Help feed our neighbors. With SNAP funding held up indefinitely and in the midst of massive inflation, tariffs, unemployment, and more... food banks are facing a crisis of need. Food banks can buy food at a ~3:1 rate compared to what you can buy, so cash is best.

Please share!

What's a good alternative to Google Photos for using on my Android (Pixel) phone? Looking for a little light editing, and easily hosting/sharing with friends and family, especially shared albums.

I was delighted to read Asterix with my 9 year old (like many 20th century "English-medium" desi kids I grew up on the stuff).

My autistic kiddo, of course, focused on how horribly Cacofonix was treated, especially at feasts. I tried to explain it away as a trope meant to be funny, but caught […]
