#Meiklewood #Gargunnock
White-tailed Eagles around the coast of the West Coast of Scotland on a very dreich morning.

I forget just how absolutely huge they are with their massive wingspans.

Snap on the Dunnocks … closely followed by the Robins who have been following my every move this morning in the Garden and also the cutting back of a hedge to thicken it as well as get some more light in

#FirstBirdOfMyDay = #LastBirdOfMyDay again. This time Owls having a bit of a set-to over something, probably just territory.

Been a good year for Owls here, Owl Boxes confirmed that for Barn Owls but notably plenty of Tawny Owls.

Why? #DeadHedges? Mix of #Trees in & around grazing pasture?

💥. 💚

Pink-footed Geese for #FirstBirdOfMyDay … sorry for all over the place camera angle.
December 2, 2025 at 5:03 PM
Swanning about (sorry) at Birnie Loch, Fife… lots of geese, ducks and yes, Swans. Who thankfully looked healthy enough re #BirdFlu but we kept away from the water edge and washed boots when we got home.

One of the passing “wedges” of Whooper Swans.
November 29, 2025 at 12:52 PM
A blur of a bird Smorgasbord for #FirstBirdOfMyDay… everyone busy after last night’s gale.
We had power out for much of the evening (then the classic blinding shock of lights & radio suddenly working when power returns late at night).
Whooper Swans and Geese notably on the move = change in weather?

…”I wish I could speak their language.”

(Apols for random typo of “love”… that’s a good problem)
November 27, 2025 at 5:58 PM
Ravens are so awesome - I’ve said it before, I love ish I could understand their language.

As for their wingspan… majestic. I get the impression that when they are together then they are scared of nothing.
November 27, 2025 at 5:56 PM
#FirstBirdOfMyDay was the same as the #LastBirdOfMyDay … honking Canada Geese going a heck of a lot quicker with the wind at their tails than this morning when they were going into it.
We are having a bit of hoolie in terms of winds and very heavy showers but notably warmer.
November 27, 2025 at 5:52 PM
Robins for #FirstBirdOfMyDay - already busy in the frost.
It started getting warmer about 5am (hence the clouds that made this gorgeous #Sunrise over #Stirling, the Castle and Wallace Monument) which meant the birds could be shunting the leaves around to get to worms.
November 26, 2025 at 8:18 AM
Treecreepers were particularly vocal this morning for #FirstBirdOfMyDay; I confess I don’t know why.
They sounded like alarm calls, but I couldn’t see a Sparrow-hawk or Merlin on a branch near them (everyone goes quiet and not so brave when the Goshawk turns up - apart from the fear-nobody Ravens)

Apologies - I stand corrected with thanks to @mycologycorner.bsky.social ; apparently it is Plicaturopsis crispa

Thank you 🙏

… which back to Rob’s original point (not sure how this moved on to Beef) would mean we would need to see less Deer…
… and until we have Wolves…
… we should be eating Venison.

Phew. Have a good weekend and keep well.

Sorry for the waste of time all round Annie.
I remembered the “Repurposing UK Agricultural land to meet climate goals”. Helen Harwatt & Matt Hayek, 2019.
Given the climate up here we might be struggling to grow Chickpeas and Chillis (we do grow decent Oats though). So I guess we’d be reforested.

Close up for #FungiFriday .
November 14, 2025 at 6:34 PM
That’s the one. It gave the Beef production emissions figure from the Beef produced in SAmerica, produced & fed with grain from deforested areas.
There is a massive range of emissions in Beef production (eg UK is at less than half that number).

interactive.carbonbrief.org/what-is-the-...
November 14, 2025 at 6:00 PM
I remember that report and data. Again, there is a massive difference in the Emissions of Beef production that they quote, which is from Humid areas after “Land Use Change” (see the big chunk of green at the start)…
… not emissions from Beef produced here in UK. It is far lower here.

I think it is wrong for Rich Countries to be increasingly dependant on imports of food from Developing Countries thereby depleting their soils & water reserves.

Worst example is people celebrating “Veganuary” with plates of food sourced from the other side of the World - that can’t be right.

You have kindly sent me a substantial amount of information, regarding the potential negative health impacts of processed (let alone ultra-processed) meat & foods.

I have simply said that eating Wild Venison is better than eating such processed meat. Do you not agree with that?
