It occurrs to me that novels are the only medium where you can be explicitly told what characters are thinking or feeling. That makes them the most powerful tool for building social skills, because you can use them to build a menu of possibilities for what might be going on in someone else's mind.

To make great music as a band, all you have to do is possess enough ego that you know you can drum real good, play guitar, or sing, and not make it all about yourself.

You can't do it alone, my friends, and your companions on stage are sharing their gifts with you.

But only the audience matters.

Man, I don't want to get into the details, but the controversy around Jason Pargin's book is out of hand. Yes, he did write 'I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom'. Yes, his earlier stuff is maybe just as good. But you can't get mad until you read it.

I'm drawing page 38 of a comicbook where I'm putting story first and, also, setting first. I think most comics artists start out wanting to draw cool characters, but it took me decades to realize characters are only cool if they do cool things in a cool environment...
