We're a rivers charity dedicated to creating a healthier Trent and tributaries. We work with nature to reduce pollution, flooding and create messier rivers full of life.
In the spirit of “you can’t step into the same river twice”, we’re launching Long View: a new series tracking how the rivers we restored change over time.

First up: the River Mease near Edingale—where bank lowering created habitat and space for water.

Have we lost sight of what a healthy river looks like?

It is a question we're asking ourselves when looking at the species lost in the Trent and beyond. To lose a species means to lose the conditions that could support its survival. In many cases, it is an unravelling that happens over time.

We can't wait for this new river channel in the River Mease catchment to establish!

We've already seen fantastic improvements and signs of complexity forming in the channel we created three months ago.

With Blue Monday and Quitter's Day firmly behind us, we're excited to share what's next for the remaining winter months.

Winter can be a challenging time to enjoy our rivers, which is why we're making outings easier as part of our winter walking series in Stoke on Trent.

Let's lead with the highlight - as we were tree planting, we spotted 12 lapwing at our new wetland restoration site ❗

And yes, we also planted trees to further improve habitat on site.

We recently spoke to the BBC about flood risk and what can be done to address it.

From housing, infrastructure, and food production, land use is under pressure and can contribute to a growing flood problem.

In the piece, we talk about the need to slow the flow.

In December, we were lucky to revisit one of our restoration sites.

Created in July 2024, these ponds offer vital space for wildlife and slow the flow of water.

Following intense rainfall, these ponds filled up nicely to temporarily store water and slow its flow towards the village of Endon.

Team Trent Rivers Trust wishes everyone a trout-standing festive season. May we all dace through the snow, leave behind the season's bleak, and salmon for a fresh start with bigger and bolder action for the Trent and tributaries next year.

All across the catchment, our natural flood management features have been put to work over the last few weeks.

These temporary ponds and wetlands have been installed to slow the flow of water and delay the flood peak by creating a spongier landscape.

Reports that Government may exempt small sites from Biodiversity Net Gain are deeply concerning. Removing essential protections only serves to weaken nature recovery.

The upcoming consultation response should strengthen BNG, not water it down.

It's official: The Midlands have moved out of drought.

For months, rivers ran low, soil moisture dropped, and wetland habitat vanished.

As we're entering flood season, concerns shift to communities at risk.

Deluge or drought, we need to give landscapes a better chance to absorb water.

We're so proud to be part of the Rivers Trust movement, and heartened to see the amazing work all across the country.

Thank you so much for spotlighting our work on the Mease here in the Trent catchment 💙

Here's a throwback to a new wetland area we created in October.

The new wetland will reduce flood risk, settle out pollutants and create space for wildlife.

Hello, we're new here. Here's a 500m stretch of river we restored last month to give you an idea of the work we're all about.
