I just spent the last 10 days setting up bazzite for full software development and music production and while there were a lot of hiccups (digital audio, distrobox, flatpak fonts), I now have zero reasons to boot my dual-boot win10 partition. Totally worth it.

"Poisoning the well" with "AI slop" and wall-to-wall AI branding is also pretty terrible (ethically), but in this case its not the tool use that's unethical - it's the CEOs and Investors and Execs who are taking the rest of us down with them so their capital investments don't vanish with the bubble.

Most of the coding assistants have a suspiciously deep knowledge of GPL code, and its way too easy for the image generators to include artist signatures. The other major ethics issue is with the chatbots misrepresenting their knowledge - both as hallucinations and (dangerously) bad advice.

I think its fair to say the main ethical concerns with GenAI as it exists today is the unlicenced/pirated source material. If you trained a NN purely on art/code you owned (or licenced with author signoff of use) its hard to say its unethical. Almost all commercial models are suspect at this time.

Bazzite is really good! It takes almost all the guesswork out in terms of gaming (Steam, drivers, Xbox controller, etc) and the fedora-based immutable desktop makes a lot of sense when you understand how it’s designed. It’s really easy to keep up to date.

I like the word “fidelity” as the inverse to abstraction, ie “increasing the fidelity of the simulation”. I think it describes having more detail in a model to more accurately represent the physical experience you are trying to simulate. It means a similar thing in audio processing.
