Trees For Streets
@treesforstreets.bsky.social
Charity led national street tree sponsorship scheme. We help residents work with their councils to plant more urban trees. Let’s fill our streets with trees - https://treesforstreets.org
Pinned
Tell us 📢 where you’d like your street tree 🌳 planted.

When a resident sponsors a tree through
@treesforstreets.bsky.social, they get to say where they’d like it planted. Their council does a survey. If all ok, a tree is put in that following winter.

A street with just one tree is better than a street with no trees at all. Just one tree can still provide a wealth of benefits for those who live around it 🌳

Grey, concrete streets are much more prone to flooding than those with a lot of vegetation.

Street trees, gardens and verges all help absorb rainwater runoff, keeping your neighbourhood safer when we face heavy rain 💧

Your street tree will be making a home for some of the UK's most spectacular wildlife 🦇🦔

Keep an eye out for robins, winter moths, bats and hedgehogs this autumn and winter!

We all know trees make a street look much more inviting, but their benefits are more than bark deep. Trees can:

💪 Improve our mental and physical well-being
🔊 Reduce noise on busy roads
📈 Help children excel in school
♻️ Remove pollution from the air

On World Kindness Day, we want to shine the spotlight on Michael, an incredible sponsor who chose for his tree to be planted outside a local retirement home.

Who wouldn't want to live on a tree-lined street? 🌲🌳

Not only do they look inviting, but they also offer a wealth of benefits, from boosting mental wellbeing to calming local traffic!

The Trees for Streets calendar is split into two:

❄️ In colder months, we plant in the locations selected by our sponsors, ensuring they have the best chance at thriving
☀️ In warmer months, we support our Watering Champions, who work hard to ensure their local young trees get all the water they need

According to Earthwatch Europe, around 1 in 3 people in the UK don't have access to nature-rich spaces near their homes. Some of the most deprived areas have no green space.

We find it heartbreaking. A third of the country is missing out on cleaner air, peacefulness and better mental health.

What if we told you that your street could look like this by this time next year? Sponsor a tree outside your home to start the regreening revolution on your road 🌲🌳

Or why not get your neighbours together to raise money for several trees that everyone can benefit from?

Autumn brings out some incredible British wildlife, many of whom will be using your trees as habitats!

Have you taken any pictures of autumnal wildlife this year? We'd love to see them 🦔🐭🦇🕸️

How does your mind feel when you're surrounded by trees? Do you feel yourself getting calmer by the minute?

There are so many studies into trees and mental health, finding that trees support our mental wellbeing!

On National Stress Awareness Day, why not seek out a tree and find some peace?

A study at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology found that increasing the number of trees by at least 30% could reduce the number of hours per year of extreme heat by nearly 64% ☀️ and the amount of rainwater runoff by 58% 💧

Get together with your neighbours to increase your tree canopy!

We're partnered with some great councils all over the UK, but we'd love to work with even more!

Tell us where you want us to be planting this time next year in the comments, and we'll do our best to be there 👇

If you were to ask us what scares us the most, we'd have to say streets with no trees 😱

Not only do they look grey, but residents living on streets with no trees face noisier and more polluted surroundings, as well as hotter summers and the potential of flooding!

Rain on concrete has nowhere to go, causing flooding, but there is something you can do.

Tree pits ensure that rainwater has a place to go, reducing the amount of runoff that sits on concrete. Live in a flood-prone area? Sponsor a tree outside your home: sponsor.treesforstreets.org/start

❄️ Did you know that planting in colder months gives our trees the best chance for a successful growing season next summer?

During cold months, trees are dormant, meaning they suffer less stress during planting, and can focus on root development, making for strong trees in 2026 💪
