Yesterday, our Director, Nicholas Aiossa, spoke at the @eesc.bsky.social on the threats currently facing the civil society organisations that defend democracy. These threats are concrete, dangerous, and are coming from within the European Union itself.

📣The 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index is OUT! And the results are alarming: the EU’s average score has fallen to 62.

With the rule of law being eroded in multiple member states, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing country scores decline across the EU.

The European Commission has decided to extend lobby meeting publication requirements to certain lower levels of staff, meaning over 1500 Commission officials will now have to declare meetings they’re having with lobbyists!

Transparency International EU is horrified to learn of the death of Ghassan Gharib Zahran, the 13-year-old son of Salam Zahran, our colleague from AMAN Coalition, our chapter in Palestine. We send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Salam and her family.

The European Parliament just voted to rescind MEP Markus Pieper's appointment as the EU SME Envoy!

@vonderleyen.bsky.social and @ec.europa.eu must show that appointments (not least those earning 17k€ a month!) are based on merit, not handed to her party friends.
