The findings highlight important biases across the literature with a focus on cars, developed countries, and local politics. Transport and electoral politics also create feedback loops that could affect transport options.

What if your ability to vote depended on your transport options? What if your ability to vote also shapes your transport options?🚍🗳️ My new Transport Reviews paper shows how democracy and transport are more connected than we think 👉 www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Enforcing speed is not the same as a police state. Plenty of other countries do it effectively. For example, speed cameras are an incredibly effective tool at managing speeding AND reducing crashes.

It seems you missed the key point. Speeding is dangerous because the faster you go, the further you travel while you perceive and react to a hazard. My example demonstrated that. Speeding means your speed at impact will be higher, increasing the chance of an injury or fatality.

The faster you go, the less time you have to perceive and react to a potential issue. I sketched a quick example where someone steps into the road 250ft in front of a vehicle on a road with a 35mph limit. If you did just 10mph over the limit, you would hit them at 34mph instead of stopping.

While your city sounds like it has room for improvement, it’s still better than relying on the subjective enforcement and biases of police.

Cameras also reduce crashes, meaning safer streets for those people you mentioned (who are disproportionately victims of traffic violence).

They’ve been proven to be pretty effective at reducing crashes while reducing biases of police enforcement.

The end being achieved is fewer crashes.

It wasn’t just about transport though. I learnt some interesting stuff about Canadian First Nations culture and storytelling.

I went to a conference in Vancouver, Canada last week. Unsurprisingly for me, my journaling focused heavily on transportation.

This week I’ll be in Vancouver, Canada for the International Conference on Urban Affairs (@uaanews.bsky.social). On Friday, I’ll be presenting some of my work on transport and voting.

I’m happy to connect with others who will be attending!

Virginia is apparently going to enable judges to put speed limiters on cars of reckless drivers. Sounds like a fairly tame safety policy. Apparently not everyone agrees.

If USDOT is withholding transportation funding for unsafe transport, it looks like they’ll have to majorly cut road/highway funding.

In this report, we evaluated transit micromobility integration in five ways, coming up with a handful of conclusions and recommendations to help improve the connections between these modes of transportation.

In this report, my colleague Sophie Spiliotopoulos and I explored how transit is integrated with bicycling and micromobility in the region.

Feeling accomplished today. Ran the Reston 10 Miler. I also ran it much faster than I thought I would.

I last ran this race 11 years ago. Definitely looking a bit older haha
