This House Finch looked cute hanging out at one of my feeders this morning. #birds #nature

It was good finding a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in my back yard today. He probably enjoyed the sun as much as I did. #birds #nature

Are you kidding me? Haven't we had enough snow? (It stopped today after a few minutes, to much relief.)

Yesterday's snowstorm leftovers. #birds #nature

I had my pick of birds at the backyard feeders during today's snowfall. I counted as many as nine at a time. I'd guess about 3-4 inches so far. A very unusual day for South Carolina indeed. #birds #nature

The Great Snowstorm of '26 has begun in my back yard.

The color of the day is: blue. #birds #nature

Sun's out today. I wonder if this is the same Eastern Bluebird I photographed last night at the same spot at the end of the sleet storm. Naaahhh . . . probably not. #birds #nature

Last photo from today's sleet storm. It's a shame it had to get dark. #birds #nature

Guess what I've been doing today while stuck at home watching the sleet and freezing rain. I'll give you a minute to think about it . . . Good guess. #birds #nature

Either this guy isn't happy with the cuisine at my establishment or he's just not thrilled with today's rain and sleet. Either way, he doesn't appear to be a happy camper. #birds #nature

First bird of the sleet storm of 2026. (Had to pull out the D5 and work hard for this House Finch.) #birds #nature

I didn't see too many birds out today. I wonder if this Tufted Titmouse has any inkling that a big ice storm is just hours away . . . Think that would make a difference to his routine? #birds #nature

This House Finch is fascinating to study from the front . . . and the back. She (probably a female) stopped by today to grab a bite before our predicted winter storm. #birds #nature

Yellow-rumped Warbler quarterbacking a move. Thinking about it . . . thinking about it . . . fake left . . . liftoff to the right! I'm outta here. #birds #nature

We didn't get a single flake of snow this weekend, which is a bit disappointing. But then this guy showed up this morning . . . so I'm somewhat appeased. #birds #nature

No story today, just a few recent photos. #birds #nature

This morning I opened the blinds and immediately grabbed my gear and didn't stop until I had captured five different species, including this Eastern Bluebird. Despite this cold weather, I like the way things are starting off this year. (Well, in my back yard, anyway . . .) #birds #nature

A little more light would have been nice to have . . . but nevertheless I was able to capture my first two birds of 2026: a Carolina Chickadee shaking off some rain drops and a Downy Woodpecker. #birds #nature

Two of my grandchildren gave me a set of seed balls in the shape of birds eggs, and the Christmas present worked its magic this morning. #birds #nature

I don't shoot Mourning Doves very often because, well . . . they're like annoying neighbors. They're always around, butting in everywhere. But when they close their eyelids and scratch an itch I pay attention. #birds #nature

I put out fresh food and water this morning, and was rewarded with a visit from a Red-bellied Woodpecker. He tried to hide from me . . . but he let down his guard for one 320th of a second. I didn't have time to boost the ISO, but fortunately that was enough. #birds #nature

This little guy just plopped down in the seed tray and stayed a while. I guess he was tried from cracking open the seeds. #birds #nature

I was already seeing some beautiful birds yesterday morning when I took this shot of a Red-bellied Woodpecker. And with that I was very content with the morning's shoot. Then the Tanager came by, so I sort of forgot about this frame. But he has the stage all to himself today. #birds #nature

Imagine my surprise this morning when I discovered this beautiful bird had stopped at my feeders. I believe it's a Summer Tanager, which would make it the third first-time bird in my backyard this year. I wish I'd had a little more light, but I'll take what I can get. #birds #nature
