The 1912 apartment ban in Toronto features prominently in a lot of histories of moral panic and exclusion in the city. But I'd never seen the wording to know what the by-law actually did or how it worked in practice or what ever happened to it. So I asked for a copy from the archives 1/

I don't know what Mayor Chow plans to run as a platform but considering Toronto Builds (the "new" policy framework for affordable housing on city land) was the big thing in her first term housing policy, I hope she and her team take a long hard look at how the city can speed up these projects.
Housing Now projects are still struggling to get shovels in the ground. Two more broke ground in 2025, bringing the total to 4. This part of the initiative is behind, so the main hope for "acceleration" rests on the zoning implementation for Major Transit Station Areas later this year.
