Removing Hampton Dellinger from this critical whistleblower protection role would neuter an important channel for reporting wrongdoing within the federal government without fear of reprisal. Undermining such mechanisms extends the administration's disturbing pattern of consolidating power and evading checks and balances across branches of government. This case represents an unprecedented challenge to the separation of powers and the ability of Congress and the judiciary to serve as a counterweight to the executive. Authorizing the president to summarily terminate Senate-confirmed officials charged with investigating potential misconduct by this very administration would grievously undermine their independence and the integrity of the entire system of oversight Protecting whistleblowers is vital for exposing corruption, fraud, and abuse that threatens government efficacy and the public interest.
