I have so little time for personal art nowadays that it has become precious to me. This year of 2025 I made these two that I adore - Time's End and Sea of Giants, both for a personal project :)

I've said it before but one of the most revelatory things about reading Marxist theory is seeing just how much genAI automation is just the same old business-as-usual capitalism. Here's Ernest Mandel's Late Capitalism in 1972.
“The worst form of waste, inherent in late capitalism, lies in the misuse of existing material and human forces of production; instead of being used for the development of free men and women, they are increasingly employed in the production of useless and harmful things. All the historical contradictions of capitalism are concentrated in the twofold character of automation. On the one hand, it represents the perfected development of material forces of production, which could in themselves potentially liberate mankind from the compulsion to perform mechanical, repetitive, dull and alienating labour. On the other hand, it represents a new threat to job and income, a new intensification of anxiety, insecurity, return to chronic mass unemployment, periodic loss of consumption and income, and intellectual and moral impoverishment. Capitalist automation as the mighty development of both the productive forces of labour and the alienating and destructive forces of commodity and capital thus becomes the objectified quintessence of the antinomies inherent in the capitalist mode of production.”

kam zurück, berichtete von ihrer Diskussion mit der KI und meinte, naja das sei ganz interessant, aber die KI bestätige vor allem ihre Meinungen, und das sei ja auch erwartbar, schließlich sei sie so programmiert. Der Prof fiel aus allen Wolken, das war ihm gar nicht eingefallen.

Wirklich jedes. einzelne. Mal. wenn jemand in der Öffentlichkeit von den "Fähigkeiten" der KI schwärmt, zeigt sich, dass sie es vor allem lieben, ungestört mit sich selbst zu reden. Was die so toll finden, ist nicht ein "Gegenüber", sondern ein Spiegel.

Viel gewinnbringender ist für mich inzwischen Kommunikation mit einer KI Jedenfalls dann, wenn man sie als Sparringspartner, Assistent, Leh-rer oder einfach als Gegenüber nutzt. Eine Viertelstunde im Ge-spräch mit einer KI bringt mir heute oft mehr als eine Stunde Doomscrollen. Nicht, weil die KI denken könnte, sondern weil sie einen zwingt, selbst zu denken. Und sie bremst nicht die eigene Neugier, weil sie von einem Thema genervt oder gelangweilt ist – und man deshalb, also aus Höflichkeit, das Thema abkürzt. Gedanken werden erst real, wenn man sie ausspricht. Probieren Sie es ein-fach mal aus. Ganz wichtig: Benut-zen Sie die KI auf dem Handy, so-dass Sie das Mikrofon und die Sprachausgabe nutzen können! Ich verstehe, dass viele Menschen Vorbehalte gegen KI haben. Aber Sie sollten wenigstens einmal aus-gelotet haben, was Ihnen entgeht.

What if we simply decided to consume less media, allowing us to have a deeper appreciation for the art we choose to spend our time with? What if, instead of having an on-demand consumer mindset that requires us to systematically strip art of all its human context, we developed better relationships with creators and built new structures to support them? What if we developed a politics of refusal — the ability to say enough is enough — and recognized that we aren’t powerless to the whims of rich tech CEOs who force this dystopian garbage down our throats while claiming it’s “inevitable?”
