Fallout Season 2 Reviews Are Pretty Good Except For One Thing
The second season of Amazon Prime’s Fallout series debuts later today, but reviews for the post-apocalyptic atom-punk show are pouring in now—and the vibes seem mostly positive, aside from concerns over the story expanding in too many different directions.  Picking up exactly where season one left off (with Ella Purnell’s Lucy and Walton Goggins’ Ghoul setting off in pursuit of Lucy’s evil dad), Fallout’s second season takes us to what many players believe is the setting of the best game in the franchise: New Vegas.

‘We were amazed’: Scientists using James Webb telescope may have discovered the earliest supernova in the known universe
Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) may have discovered the most distant supernova in the universe. This stellar explosion, hosted by a very faint galaxy, occurred when the universe was only 730 million years old. Besides adding a new potential record to JWST's already-impressive list, this detection provides insight into the origin of a superbright gamma-ray burst observed in March.

Tesla used deceptive language to market Autopilot, California judge rules
Tesla’s sales in California should be suspended for 30 days because its marketing around Autopilot and Full Self-Driving misled consumers, a California administrative law judge has ruled. Back in 2022, the California DMV accused the automaker of using deceptive language to advertise those products and making it seem like its vehicles are capable of level 5 autonomous driving. Tesla has since added the word “Supervised” to the name of its Full Self-Driving assistance technology.

The Best Video Game Shooters Of 2025
Last year, I wondered if I had jumped the gun in claiming that the golden age of shooters was ending. In 2025, I can confirm that, yes, I did indeed get that wrong. This year had a plethora of fantastic shooters that ranged from AAA online experiences to small-scale indie games made almost entirely by a single person. So I won’t make any predictions about next year, and instead I’ll just say that as someone who loves a good first-person or third-person shooter, I’m happy past Zack was wrong.

2026 Mercedes CLA first drive: Entry level doesn’t mean basic
SAN FRANCISCO—Automakers are starting to follow somewhat familiar paths as they continue their journeys to electrification. Electric vehicles are, at first, strange new tech, and usually look like it. Mercedes-Benz’s EQS and EQE are good examples—with bodies that look like bars of soap worn down in the shower, they stood out. For early adopters and trailblazers that might be fine, but you need to sell cars to normal people if you want to survive, and that means making EVs more normal.

For decades, cardiologists have observed that heart attacks cause more damage when they occur during the day than when they happen at night — and understanding why could be key to treating the condition, a new study finds. There are many theories as to why daytime heart attacks are more harmful; some point to daily fluctuations in stress hormones and blood pressure as possible culprits.

Other ranchers told ProPublica they’ve been able to stay on their land and preserve their way of life by leasing to solar. Landon Kesler’s family, which raises cattle for team roping competitions, has leased land to solar for more than a decade. The revenue has allowed the family to almost double its land holdings, providing more room to ranch, Kesler said.

More than 5,000 years ago, burrowing bees made their homes inside heaps of rodent bones buried in a cave on Hispaniola, the Caribbean island that comprises the Dominican Republic and Haiti, a new fossil study suggests. The bees encountered the bones while digging to their preferred depth in the soil. They stopped to build nests inside tooth and vertebra cavities, which turned out to be the perfect size, researchers found.

NASA JPL Shakes Things Up Testing Future Commercial Lunar Spacecraft
The same historic facilities that some 50 years ago prepared NASA’s twin Voyager probes for their ongoing interstellar odyssey are helping to ready a towering commercial spacecraft for a journey to the Moon. Launches involve brutal shaking and astonishingly loud noises, and testing in these facilities mimics those conditions to help ensure mission hardware can survive the ordeal. The latest spacecraft to get this treatment are Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 2 vehicles, set to launch to the Moon’s far side next year.

Senators count the shady ways data centers pass energy costs on to Americans
“If data centers end up providing less business to the utility companies than anticipated, consumers could be left with massive electricity bills as utility companies recoup billions in new infrastructure costs, with nothing to show for it,” senators wrote. Already, Utah, Oregon, and Ohio have passed laws “creating a separate class of utility customer for data centers which includes basic financial safeguards such as upfront payments and longer contract length,” senators noted, and Virginia is notably weighing a similar law.

Ditch Your Old Soundbar for Good, Sonos Beam Hits Record Low One Week Before Christmas on Amazon
TV audio quality has improved dramatically over the years, but slim modern displays sacrifice speaker quality for sleek designs and leave you with tinny sound that undermines your viewing experience. Finding space for full surround sound systems proves challenging in apartments or smaller living rooms where bulky speakers and subwoofers simply don’t fit the layout. Sonos has built its reputation on delivering premium audio in compact formats and the Beam (Gen 2) addresses the soundbar needs of space-conscious homes without compromising performance: This Dolby Atmos soundbar currently sells for $369 on Amazon, down from its regular $499 price, and marks an all-time low for one of the most respected names in home audio.

How Small Is Too Small? Volunteers Help NASA Test Lake Monitoring From Space
Volunteers participating in the Lake Observations by Citizen Scientists and Satellites (LOCSS) project have been collecting water level data in lakes since 2017. Now, the LOCSS team has used these data to examine the accuracy of water level measurements made from space. The results, published in GIScience & Remote Sensing, showed that modern satellites with special instruments called nadir altimeters can capture water level variation with relatively high accuracy even for lakes smaller than one square kilometer.

“We don’t have moments of terror for the deployment,” Townsend said. “Obviously, launch is always a risk, the tip-off rates that you have when you separate from the launch vehicle… Then, obviously, getting the aperture door open so that it’s deployed is another one. But these feel like normal aerospace risks, not unusual, harrowing moments for Roman.” It also helps that Roman will use a primary mirror gifted to NASA by the National Reconnaissance Office, the US government’s spy satellite agency.
