Professional water nerd, recovering policy wonk, collector and connector of good humans and holder of important conversations. Hello.
Lovely morning to take the bike on a boat.

Collected a friend for an early little city loop to check out the new veloway, home via the delightful Westgate punt.

Hat tip to Far Fetched Designs in Seddon for this cracking new shade for my beloved mid-century lamp.

The original is quite tatty, and the height of it limited placement options. Now it's got a shorter and fatter modern shade, with the old one tucked away for possible re-covering in future.

Iron time. Here's hoping this does what 2 years on tablets didn't.

It's a very tiny national park

Morning Dave! I didn't find that mistletoe, though i did learn in grows on the sharkwood trees. Also didn't spot the green parrot or a tropic bird, though had my fill of terns and noddies. 😊

Humans being cruel and sadistic toward other humans. Round and round we go.

Why Norfolk? Because my mother wanted a family holiday while dad is still able to travel. So here I am, tagging along with a bus-load of Gold Coast seniors.

Still off-limits, just viewed from the other side.

Technically, i can visit this beach, except the tour I'm stuck on doesn't take people down there (it's steep, the group is oldies), so I'd need to hire a car.

Norfolk Island: weirdly difficult to explore for a tourist destination.

The off limits beach, it beckons

I have been snorkelling, and regretting not bringing the waterproof camera. Surge wrasses are very pretty.

Ok, that's the house made festive for this year. I think the wall unit needs a second fish tank though. 🤔

And also, weirdly, the Andes in Peru. From the first time I visited, something about them told me i was home. It's a long way from Australia but I've been 3 times, including a year working, based in Lima.

If you see this, quote post with your own beach photo. Vitamin sea.

Getting some culture again.

Reading After Australia: phenomenal. So many voices i know and cherish: Karen Wyld, Claire Coleman, Omar Sakr, Michelle Law...

Then an unknown voice - Kaya Ortiz - utterly destroys me, in the way only poetry can, and I'm seen and adrift and homesick for my lutruwita and the Mountain, sobbing.

The expanding shrimp army says hello, plus some danio cameos.

Please thank them for me. They left a good legacy.

Doing battle with the patch of bush iris "garden" outside my rental, which forms an effective trap for debris from the local pink pepper and plane trees, plus a bit of litter. I found a whole spatula today!

New library book day!

What will i take away from these? Reading what calls from the shelves, rather than what's on my to read list and needs ordering in or purchasing.

This book...

The topic is oh so heavy (and oh so relevant), yet Zgheib woes with such delicate lightness that it is not only navigable, but beautiful.

The world needs more of this aching love for, and understanding of, or humanity.

Had a play date this afternoon. 😃

Injured shoulder is s l o w l y getting stronger after 6 months of work. Chronic issues are hard work, but I'm getting there and utterly delighted to be able to climb (very carefully) again.
