“Survival is insufficient” for sure. How one goes about surviving - thinking beyond music and beauty and art, which is mandatory - is the very hard question.

I seem to recall a wide swath of storms across the central US over the past two days. The catastrophic damage from “surgical” storms entails lesser overall costs than a hurricane, but these are also growing in size and frequency and cost. (And are subjectively more terrifying too IMO).

I’m not reading the editorial - why lol it’s the NYT - but my take on this particular screenshot is that you highlighted the wrong half and this whole specific section is on point.
