I mean, reactionaries (including those with a red rosette) already think universities are for effete rootless cosmopolitan ‘anywheres’, whether UK-born or international: the boosterist rhetoric about int'l students only flatters their prejudice.

Great that you're pushing back against this far-right rubbish and wishing you luck, but I'm afraid wearing the same rosette as its proponents is going to hamper your efforts.

C'è l'imbarazzo della scelta, ma per campanilismo sono tenuto a dire che quelle di Birmingham e dintorni non hanno eguali.

Magari non sanno di essere gongoozler, ma è incredibile come gente di ogni età e di ogni origine si fermi incantata a guardare le barche passare nelle chiuse, o addirittura le segua. (E ovviamente a quel punto glielo spieghiamo, che questo fa di loro dei gongoozler).

L'inglese britannico ha il meraviglioso termine gongoozler, che sta ai canali come l'umarell sta ai cantieri. E proprio come per l'umarellismo, da volontario su un canale vedo lo spirito del gongoozler accendersi nelle persone più insospettabili.
