Overlooking my alma mater. I have climbed that mountain so many times, and it never gets old. Have fun!

100% non-snarkily, that’s kind of the idea behind the 401k, right? You work at a place for however long, you and your employer contribute to your retirement plan, and it goes with you when you leave. It’s not a defined-benefit plan, but you can (theoretically) turn it into one when you retire

No one knows what Platner believes in his heart of hearts but we do know he had a Nazi tattoo up until last week.

It already is a competitive primary? It’s not just Mills vs Platner here – there are other candidates!

Maine is the oldest and whitest state in the country. It is not the oracle for Democratic Party politics nationally, even if Platner wins.

I was supposed to run a half marathon tomorrow. Then my child brought home the chest cold from hell. :/

Boots and socks. Being able to count on warm and dry feet is extremely important when the weather calls for it

I buy expensive boots, expensive socks, and warm winter jackets. I live in Maine. Winter readiness is extremely important to me.

Yes, knives. I have a good chefs knife, a good paring knife, and a good veggie knife. I sharpen the chefs knife once a year professionally. They will last me the rest of my life, god willing (though I’m sure I’ll lose the paring knife at one point).

Pushkin is good to have read if you want to talk about Pushkin’s influence on Russian literature and absolutely useless otherwise. (He’s fine? But I don’t read Russian and I didn’t get the hype from the translations.)

This is an extremely Modern understanding of the purpose of art. It’s not so much that it’s right-wing, it’s just that it’s very 20th Century, and as people have scrutinized it, it’s gone out of fashion. Which is good, because it’s very clearly wrong, lol.

Every time I have been to Vegas, which is unfortunately several times for awful conferences, it’s seemed like a theme park for the Republican car dealer set. Big dumb tacky shit, stroads, sunbelt heat, zero culture, men cheating on their wives. It’s got it all.

Ours had it two weeks ago. Tore through the daycare. My sympathies.

I have two in my basement. I empty them every ~10 hours in weather like this. Awful.

We went to a new parents class when we had our daughter last year, and were genuinely astonished that this is now a thing? I feel like upper-middle-class millennial parenthood is imbued with shit that veers perilously close to woo, but the chiropractor rec really took the cake
